Dockex vs. Geotab

Geotab routes. Dockex files.

Geotab works. Your reseller decides what you see.
Dockex publishes every feature, every price.

Your Geotab reseller sets your rate plan, and your rate plan decides what you can see. As Marisa F. put it in her 4★ G2 review: "Many features are not available to us due to our chosen rate plan... it looks like we are not taking full advantage." Dockex publishes every feature, every tier. $79 / $249 / $599 flat. Nothing gated, nothing hidden.

Already using Geotab?

Keep your Geotab devices. Drop the reseller markup on compliance.

Dockex reads the Geotab API read-only. Your GO devices, rate plan, and existing reseller relationship stay put. We surface the DOT compliance + filings work that Geotab rate-plan tiers don't cover — no second reseller, no upsell call.

  • Read-only Geotab API integration — your MyGeotab environment is untouched
  • DQ files, drug & alcohol result tracking + MIS report, FMCSA Clearinghouse query tracking + reminders — inside Dockex
  • Oklahoma carriers: Dockex prepares and files your IRP, IFTA, and state registration on your behalf; Form 2290 and UCR are filed for you nationwide
  • Flat $79 / $249 / $599 pricing — no rate-plan gating for any compliance feature

The 10 things Geotab won't do

10 federal compliance items Geotab doesn't ship. (It doesn't claim to — your reseller didn't mention it.)

Geotab is telematics. It's also not a compliance product and doesn't claim to be. Dockex is the compliance and filings product — point Geotab's API at it, keep the GO devices, cut the tag agent. Keep your existing drug & alcohol consortium; Dockex tracks every result and generates your annual MIS report. $79-$599/mo flat, Enterprise custom for 500+ vehicles.

Features gated behind our chosen rate plan

Marisa F. — G2 (4★)

Dockex has three tiers — Starter, Professional, Business — each with a published feature list. No 'the rate plan you signed up for doesn't include that.' Upgrade from the billing page, instantly.

Reports need a developer to build

Yu C. — G2 (5★)

Every Dockex list is filterable on any field. CSV + PDF export on every view. AI briefing answers natural-language questions about your fleet every morning — no custom report required.

Onboarding is cumbersome

Jeremy M. — G2 (3★)

15-minute founder call. Upload a CSV. Dockex back-fills VINs via NHTSA. Done — your compliance + filings dashboard is live same-day.

Maintenance module is too basic

Matthew C. — G2 (4★)

Dockex work orders tie to vehicles, drivers, service programs, and cost centers. Preventive maintenance scheduling, parts tracking, and a full DOT audit trail — not an afterthought.

Cellular drop-outs kill real-time view

Jay G. — G2 (4★)

Dockex reads from Geotab, Samsara, or Motive. If Geotab GO loses signal, we still show last-known position from the cached feed. HOS is read from Samsara or Motive when you connect one. Reconciliation on reconnect.

Geotab doesn't do DQ files or FMCSA compliance

50 G2 reviews — zero mentions of these categories

Dockex was built for exactly this. DQ files, D&A result tracking + annual MIS report, FMCSA Clearinghouse, MVR, CSA BASIC — the compliance layer Geotab leaves to spreadsheets.

Geotab tracks IFTA mileage — doesn't file the return

Public product page

Dockex takes Geotab's mileage API and preps your IFTA quarterly return everywhere — and files it for you in Oklahoma (Texas next). Same for IRP and state registration: prepped nationwide, filed for you in Oklahoma. Form 2290 and UCR are federal — enter the numbers, pay in-app, Dockex files them for you nationwide.

The real bill

Two invoices. One of them still needs a tag agent.

Geotab is reseller-set — your price depends on the reseller and rate plan you pick, so get a current quote for your fleet. Either way you still need a tag agent for state filings, and a compliance consultant for DQ/D&A. Dockex bundles all of that at a flat price.

Your rate plan is the real price of Geotab

Geotab's pricing isn't set by Geotab — it's set by your reseller, tiered by 'rate plan.' Half the features exist. You may not be paying for them.

Many features are not available to us due to our chosen rate plan. I was not at this company when they onboarded Geotab, so it looks like we are not taking full advantage.
Marisa F., G2
There is a need to improve Pricing. Onboarding needs work, and is cumbersome. I would like to see more from the AI perspective on automation.
Jeremy M., G2

Custom reports need a developer. Your ops manager isn't one.

Geotab's report engine is powerful and powerful means 'code required.' Yu C. says it plainly: you need computer language most customers don't have.

The User Interface/portal can be intimidating for first time users and slightly cumbersome but with enough training and guidance it becomes more familiar over time. We would also say that maintenance tracking side of the application is also very basic and not a replacement for more advanced software applications that specialize in this space.
Matthew C., G2
Difficulty of building your report - need some computer language which most of the customers don't have. Route history could be more clear.
Yu C., G2
It often takes significant development resources to fully customize and integrate, which makes it less of an out-of-the-box solution for smaller teams.
Girish S., G2

Maintenance is an afterthought module, not a product

Matthew C. said it inside a 4-star review: Geotab's maintenance tracking is 'very basic and not a replacement for more advanced software.' Dockex work orders are a first-class module.

maintenance tracking side of the application is also very basic and not a replacement for more advanced software applications that specialize in this space.
Matthew C., G2

Cellular coverage is a feature of geography, not Geotab

Rural fleets, mountain passes, Northwest Territories — Geotab's real-time view disappears with the signal. Dockex caches last-known so at least the compliance view doesn't blank.

The reliance on cellular data has become a major hindrance for us. Even simple valleys along the road can cause our units to lose connection. When our drivers travel into the Northwest Territories, they often don't have a strong enough signal, which prevents us from tracking them to confirm they're still moving and safe.
Jay G., G2

No lock-in

Keep Geotab. Skip the reseller. Add the compliance layer.

Four promises. No small print. If any of these turns out not to be true, email contact@dockex.io and we'll refund every dollar you've paid us.

FAQ

Everything else you're probably wondering.

Do I have to switch off Geotab?+

No. Dockex reads Geotab API in telematics-only mode. Keep your GO devices, your rate plan, your reseller relationship. Dockex adds the DOT compliance + filing layer on top.

What if my Geotab rate plan doesn't include the data Dockex needs?+

Dockex only needs the base telematics feed (positions, engine data). That's included in every Geotab rate plan. No rate-plan upgrade required to use Dockex.

Can Dockex replace Geotab entirely?+

Not for ELD/GPS hardware — you still need a device in the truck. You can switch from Geotab GO to Samsara or Motive and Dockex will read from whichever you pick. Month-to-month, no hardware lock.

What does Dockex do that Geotab doesn't?+

Everything compliance + filings: DQ files, drug & alcohol result tracking + annual MIS report, FMCSA Clearinghouse query tracking + reminders, MVR auto-scoring, state registration filing (Oklahoma; prep nationwide), IRP apportioned filing (filed for you in Oklahoma, prepped everywhere), IFTA quarterly RETURN (not just mileage — filed for you in Oklahoma, prepped everywhere), Form 2290, UCR, MCS-150 (federal, filed for you nationwide).

How does pricing compare?+

Geotab is sold through resellers, so your price depends on which reseller you go through and which rate plan you pick — there's no single public number. Get a current quote from your Geotab reseller for your fleet, then remember it's telematics only. Dockex is $79-$599/mo flat, with all compliance + filings included. Enterprise (500+ vehicles) is custom.

Does Dockex work outside Oklahoma?+

Federal filings + compliance work nationwide. State registration filing launches state-by-state — Oklahoma live today, Texas next.

Can I keep my Geotab contract while using Dockex?+

Yes. Dockex reads Geotab's API read-only and layers compliance + filings on top. Your existing contract, hardware, and driver workflows don't change. Most design partners keep their telematics vendor for the remainder of the current term and switch on their own calendar when it expires.

What's the Design Partner Program?+

First 10 DOT-regulated fleets: 50% off year 1 (annual plan, no clawback on exit), direct Slack access to the founder, and quarterly roadmap input. In exchange: one written case study at day 90, logo on our site with your approval, 15 minutes of async feedback per month. See /design-partners for full terms.

Every feature on. No rate plan. No reseller. One flat price.

28 trucks in the sandbox. 2 seconds away. $249 flat, month-to-month. Keep your Geotab GO. We handle the rest.
