Dockex vs. Motive
Motive commits you. Dockex doesn't.
Motive (formerly KeepTruckin) — not BBB accredited, 211 complaints filed in 3 years, and BBB's own profile flags Motive's Terms of Service sections on fees, termination for cause, and customer early termination. No federal compliance in the box either — you still need DQ files, FMCSA Clearinghouse, drug & alcohol result tracking, and IFTA return filing. That's what Dockex does, for $249 flat.
Reads Motive's API. Month-to-month. No auto-renew. No sales rep.
Already using Motive?
Dockex reads the Motive API read-only. Your ELD stays where it is, your drivers don't learn new hardware, and your existing contract terms don't change. We pull your operational data and add the DQ, drug & alcohol result tracking, Clearinghouse query tracking, and filing work that Motive doesn't ship.
An actual G2 review, 1 star
“My salesperson lied about several aspects of the technology. Once I had a demo and decided to set up an account the whole company quit talking to me. Customer support was non-existent. They would not respond to emails or phone calls until I threatened to suspend all payments and void the contract.”
The real bill
Motive doesn't publish pricing — gomotive.com/pricing is a sales form. Third-party reviewers report $25-40/vehicle/month on 3-year terms with proprietary hardware. Dockex is flat monthly, month-to-month, no hardware. Four tiers: Starter $79, Professional $249, Business $599, Enterprise custom.
Motive stack (30 trucks)

Dockex Professional

Dockex replaces ELD + cameras + agent + consultant — plus your tag agent and compliance consultant.
One price. One dashboard. One place to look when a truck is off the road.

The 10 things Motive won't do
Motive's product pages list ELD + dash cam + routing + basic reporting. The terms below are not in their marketing, not in their docs, not in their product.
Motive sold you an ELD and a camera. The tag agent and the compliance consultant are still separate invoices. Dockex is both — $249/mo, one login, no 3-year lock. Keep your existing drug & alcohol consortium; Dockex tracks every result and generates your annual MIS report.
Every problem, fixed
Left: what Motive customers report. Right: how Dockex handles it without asking you to break the ELD contract.
Pain
Dockex answer
Contract auto-renews despite written cancellation requests
Motive BBB profile · 211 complaints in 3 years · not BBB accredited
Dockex is month-to-month. No auto-renew. Cancel from the billing page at any time. Export your data on request.
Getting billed for terminated trucks or unused service
Cecilia W. — G2 · BBB complaints 24157972, 24229644
Delete a vehicle in Dockex — the billing immediately adjusts. No 30-day 'backend processing' delay. Flat monthly means headcount doesn't change your bill anyway.
Sales over-promises, then support ghosts you after signing
Matt G. · Glen H. — G2
There is no Dockex sales team. Sandbox → trial → self-serve sign-up. If you have questions, book 15 minutes with the founder directly — same person before and after you sign.
Hardware lock-in (Vehicle Gateway + cameras)
gomotive.com/pricing redirects to a quote-request form
Dockex is BYOD. If you need to stay on Motive's Vehicle Gateway because the contract's not up, keep it — Dockex reads Motive's API. When the contract ends, switch to any ELD.
Motive doesn't handle DQ / FMCSA / D&A / filings
gomotive.com features pages show no compliance or filing module
Dockex handles all of it. 17 DQ file items across FMCSA §391 + §382. D&A test-result tracking + the §382.403 annual MIS report (bring your existing consortium/TPA). FMCSA Clearinghouse query tracking + reminders. MVR auto-scoring on upload. CSA BASIC sync. Federal + state filings. One login.
Mileage data stays in Motive — doesn't become an IFTA return
Motive IFTA reporting generates a PDF; state portal submission is the customer's job
Dockex takes Motive's mileage API and prepares the quarterly IFTA return — on Pro+ we file it for you in Oklahoma (prepped nationwide so you or your agent can submit elsewhere). Same for IRP and state registration: filed for you in Oklahoma, prepped everywhere. Form 2290, UCR, and MCS-150 are federal — we file those for you nationwide. One login.

Public receipts
The complaints below are about commercial terms — contract length, auto-renewal, and off-boarding — not the hardware. They show up on G2, on Motive's BBB profile, and in public industry-forum discussions. We link every verifiable source below; pattern-attributed pull quotes have been removed pending Phase 2 re-sourcing.
Motive's Better Business Bureau profile shows 211 complaints filed in the last 3 years (59 in the last 12 months) and it is not BBB accredited. BBB's own profile explicitly flags Motive's Terms of Service sections on Fees (7.1), Termination for Cause (8.2), and Customer Early Termination (8.3) as customer-concern areas. Individual complaints describe auto-renewal happening despite written cancellation — e.g. complaint 24272984 (December 2025): the customer emailed Motive in May 2025 to cancel at term-end, Motive verbally acknowledged the cancellation, then renewed the contract in August 2025 without authorization.
“Despite having clear written notice and follow-up phone calls that I did not wish to renew, Motive renewed the contract in August 2025 without authorization and attempted to charge my business. I never consented to renewal, verbally or in writing.”
The rep who closed your deal is unreachable the day after you sign. The 'insurance discount' they promised? Call your insurer — it's not real.
“My salesperson lied about several aspects of the technology. Once I had a demo and decided to set up an account the whole company quit talking to me. Customer support was non-existent. They would not respond to emails or phone calls until I threatened to suspend all payments and void the contract.”
“Their sales team are way too pushy calling almost daily trying to get me to add cameras to the system telling me that I would get a discount on insurance if I installed them. I contacted my Insurance company and they told me that this was not true. Another lie.”
Motive doesn't have a self-serve off-boarding flow. You sell a truck, you wait, and you escalate to get billing corrected. Cecilia W. on G2 and multiple BBB complainants (24229644, 24157972, 24272984) describe the same pattern — paying for ELDs on trucks they no longer own, because cancellation won't process.
“Absolutely impossible to return an ELD on a truck we sold. So the ELD is in a box, in my office that I am still paying for. Quick to take money, add ELDs!!”

FAQ
No. Dockex reads Motive's API in telematics-only mode. Keep your Vehicle Gateways and AI dash cams. Dockex layers the DOT compliance + filing workflow on top — DQ files, D&A result tracking, Clearinghouse, state registrations, federal filings.
That's the reason we built Dockex as an overlay. You don't need to break the Motive contract to start using Dockex. When your Motive contract ends, point Dockex at Samsara, Geotab, or a generic ELD — your Dockex account keeps the full history.
For compliance, filings, maintenance, DQ files, audit packets — yes. For ELD hardware — you still need a device. Dockex supports Motive, Samsara, Geotab, and most generic ELDs.
Motive doesn't publish a price. gomotive.com/pricing redirects to a sales lead-capture form — every buyer goes through a rep. Third-party reviewers (tech.co, traxelio.com) peg customer-reported rates at $25-40/vehicle/month with multi-year commitments. Dockex is $79-$599/mo flat, month-to-month — full DOT compliance + federal filings nationwide, IRP/IFTA/registration filed for you in Oklahoma (prep nationwide). Enterprise (500+ vehicles) is custom.
Everything compliance + filings: DQ files, drug & alcohol result tracking + annual MIS report, FMCSA Clearinghouse query tracking + reminders, MVR auto-scoring on upload, CSA BASIC sync, state registration filing (Oklahoma), IRP apportioned filing (Oklahoma; prep nationwide), IFTA quarterly RETURN (not just report — Oklahoma; prep nationwide), Form 2290 / HVUT filing, UCR, MCS-150.
Federal filings (Form 2290, UCR, MCS-150) and the full DOT compliance tracker (DQ files, drug & alcohol result tracking, FMCSA Clearinghouse query tracking + reminders, MVR auto-scoring on upload, CSA BASIC) work nationwide. State-level registration + IRP/IFTA done-for-you filing is currently Oklahoma — we prepare and file it for you on your behalf. Everywhere else: Dockex prepares the return; you or your existing tag agent submits. Texas launch is next.
Yes. Dockex reads Motive's API read-only and layers compliance + filings on top. Your existing contract, hardware, and driver workflows don't change. Most design partners keep their telematics vendor for the remainder of the current term and switch on their own calendar when it expires. Past your cancellation window and still getting billed for trucks you've already sold? Dockex is the escape valve — month-to-month, cancel from your billing page, data exports clean on request.
